Esquire Records

Esquire Records is the name of two defunct record labels:
Esquire Records (UK) was a jazz record label founded by Carlo Krahmer and Peter Newbrook in 1947. It issued recordings by British musicians; and others, under licence, from the American Prestige label,〔(Chris Blackwell buys a list from Carlo Krahmer )〕 the Chicago blues label Delmark, and the Swedish Metronome label. The company lasted until the mid-1970s; after Carlo's death it was run by his widow Greta. In the 1980s Newbrook (d. 2009) reissued much of the Esquire jazz catalogue in an "Esquire Treasure Chest" series of LPs.
The company had a subsidiary, Starlite Records, for non-jazz recordings, including skiffle. ()
Esquire Records (Australia) distributed Petula Clark's first singles in Australia. The company also distributed Mercury recordings, by Frankie Laine among others, on its Esquire Mercury sublabel.
